About The Stone Sculpture

• The sculpture showcases the slender form associated with the Chola artistic style, gracefully capturing the duality of Ardhanareeshwar.
• The artist has displayed exceptional craftsmanship in carving the features of the deity. Shiva, depicted on the right, is adorned with his signature matted locks, which holds the crescent moon and from where the river goddess Ganga flows. A beautifully carved third eye on the forehead and a serpent that rests upon his shoulder, symbolises the Lord’s transcendence over earthly desires and mastery over the cycle of life and death.
• The intricacy in the carving highlights the sculptor’s extraordinary attention to detail. On the left, Parvati, or Goddess Shakti, is rendered with delicate features, adorned in traditional ornaments, expressing divine beauty, power, and grace, thus seamlessly blending the masculine and feminine halves.
• The round pedestal features finely carved Hindu motifs of animals and birds, embodying purity, fertility, and spirituality.
• The statue has been carved from Kadapa stone, a dense, smooth-textured stone native to Southern India. Kadapa’s natural strength ensures longevity, making it ideal for indoor sanctums or outdoor spaces.
